The hallmark of wireless communications to date has been constant technological evolution. First there were analog technologies such as AMPS and NMT, then came the transition to digital with GSM - which in turn is evolving with technologies such as GPRS. Now the stage is set for the next step up the mobile technology ladder with the introduction of Wideband CDMA (WCDMA), the third generation of mobile communications.
